Branding and identity in Ireland: the complete guide
A plain, complete guide to branding Ireland for SME owners: what a brand is, what it costs, and the order to build strategy, identity and website in.

Your brand is the promise people remember before they ever speak to you, and in Ireland it's what lets a smaller firm win work against a bigger, cheaper one. It's the whole system of decisions, strategy, name, identity, voice and the experience that follows, and together they're what make a customer choose you and pay what you're worth.
This guide is the overview we wish every Irish owner had before they briefed a designer or signed off a quote. It covers what branding means, what it costs here, the order to build it in, and how to tell a real investment from a nice-looking waste of money.
The three things people call branding
People use the word for at least three different things, and the confusion costs money. Keeping them separate is the most useful thing you can do before you spend anything.
- Brand strategy is the thinking: who you're for, what you promise, how you're different, and the words you own in a customer's head.
- Brand identity is the expression: name, logo, colour, type, imagery and the rules that hold them together.
- Brand experience is everything a customer meets: your website, your emails, your premises, how you answer the phone.
Strategy decides what to say. Identity decides how it looks. Experience is where it holds up or falls apart, and a strong logo sitting on top of a vague strategy is a good coat of paint on a house with no foundations.
Why branding earns its money for an Irish SME
The honest case for branding is commercial. Consistent presentation makes you easier to recognise, easier to trust & easier to charge for, and there's a number attached to it.
Marq, in its 2021 Brand Consistency report, found that presenting a brand consistently across every touchpoint lifts revenue by up to 33 percent. In a market the size of Ireland, where word of mouth travels fast and your buyers sit a few LinkedIn connections apart, being recognisable compounds faster than it would in a bigger economy.
The reverse costs you just as reliably. Three versions of the logo in circulation, a different tone in every post, a website that looks like it belongs to another company, and buyers hesitate at the exact moment you need them not to. Hesitation is lost deals.
What branding costs in Ireland
There's no single number, and anyone who gives you one without asking questions is guessing. Cost here scales with three things: how much strategy work you need, how many touchpoints you're rolling it out across, and how senior the people doing the thinking are.
A freelancer or a template can produce a logo for a few hundred euro, while a full strategy and identity system for an ambitious company runs into five figures, and what separates the two ends is scope, research and the number of problems being solved along the way.
Buying at the wrong end for your stage is the mistake we see most. A pre-revenue startup rarely needs a fifteen thousand euro identity system, an established firm charging premium prices rarely gets away with a fifty euro logo, and the fix in both directions is to match the spend to the decision it supports.

The order to build a brand in
Sequence matters more than budget. Do these in the wrong order and you pay twice.
- Strategy. Decide who you serve and what you promise before anyone opens a design tool.
- Identity. Design the marks and the system that express that strategy.
- Experience. Roll the identity out across website, content and every point of contact.
- Consistency. A brand is maintained rather than launched, and the value comes from repeating it.
If you only have budget for one step this quarter, do the strategy. It's the cheapest to produce and the most expensive to get wrong.
Brand and website are separate projects
Owners often bundle a new brand and a new website into one job. They're related but distinct, because the brand decides what the site should say and look like while the site is one expression of it.
Sort the brand thinking first, because otherwise you'll spend three months designing a website around a positioning you're about to change, then pay a second time to rebuild the same pages once the strategy settles.
How to tell it's working
You don't need a dashboard to feel a brand working. Customers describe you the way you describe yourself, your team knows what to say yes and no to, you stop competing purely on price, and referrals arrive already half-sold.
If none of that's happening, the problem is usually the strategy underneath. For a broader view of how identity, positioning and consistency drive commercial value, the Interbrand Best Global Brands methodology is a useful non-vendor reference on how brand strength gets measured.

This page is the hub, and the articles below go deeper on the questions Irish owners ask us most.
- What a logo costs in Ireland, and what you get for each price breaks down the real price bands here, from template to bespoke, and what you should expect to receive at each one before you sign anything.
- Brand strategy or brand identity: which one your business needs first settles the most common sequencing mistake we see, and helps you spend on the right step for the stage your business is at.

We do the strategy and the identity, then build the website, content and tooling that carry it, so the brand you approve is the brand your customers meet. Frequently asked
- What is the difference between a brand and a logo?
- A logo is a single mark. A brand is the whole system: your strategy, name, identity, voice and the experience customers meet. The logo expresses the brand it sits on top of. Spending only on a logo tends to disappoint, because the thinking underneath was never done.
- How much does branding cost in Ireland?
- From a few hundred euro for a template or freelance logo to five figures for a full strategy and identity system. The price scales with how much strategy you need, how many touchpoints you're rolling it out across, and the seniority of the people doing the thinking.
- Should I do brand strategy or brand identity first?
- Strategy first, every time. Strategy decides what to say and who you're for. Identity is how that gets expressed visually. Design an identity before the strategy is settled and you'll usually pay to redo it once your positioning becomes clear.
- Do I need a new brand or just a new website?
- They're separate projects. The brand decides what your site should say and look like; the website is one expression of it. Sort the brand thinking first, or you risk building a site around a position you're about to change.
